Extending your Summer Tan

Gone are the days of basting yourself like a Christmas turkey and baking in the sun – thank goodness! But hands up if you still love that holiday feeling and your glowing skin? Here’re some tips on how to hold your glow for longer, naturally!

Because bronzed skin is born from the sun activating colour pigments in the epidermal (top) layer of your skin, the colour will only last between six to 10 days due to the natural turnover of cells. Keep your glow for longer with some good prep and exfoliate or dry body brush before your holiday.

Wearing sunscreen is vital when exposed to the sun, not only to protect your skin from harmful UV rays, but also if you want a long-lasting tan. Not only is too much sun exposure dangerous, but the colour achieved through burning will fade quicker as damaged skin cells will peel off more easily. Essano’s SPF15 facial moisturiser contains new generation mineral SPF protection and has a slight colour tint for a barely-feel-you’re-wearing-any, protective glow.

Rocking a large floppy hat and oversized sunnies will help you save face. If you’re hitting the beach or spending a bit of time in the great outdoors, it’s best to wear a SPF50 sunscreen to keep the wrinkles at bay!

Scientists believe that water helps extend the life of your skin cells, so drink as much as possible. Melons, cucumbers and celery also have a high-water content and make for the perfect skin-friendly snack this summer. Keep your skin hydrated with Essano’s antioxidant rich Certified Organic Body Oil to keep summer skin supple and smooth. High levels of Certified Rosehip, Pomegranate and Jojoba Oils will replenish lost moisture and leave skin with a gorgeous sheen.

Your face needs extra support in the summer to ensure skin stays hydrated and smooth. It’s also the first area where tans usually fade, so choose a moisturiser and a night crème that suit your skin type, and make a habit of applying them morning and night.

Remember, our skin will thank us tomorrow for what we do today.
