Here at essano™, we’ve always put a lot of thought into our packaging. Up to now we’ve taken care to make sure it’s all either recyclable or biodegradable. We’re always keen to find new, better ways to be as kind to our planet as our products are to your skin, hair and body.
That’s why we’re excited to share our latest commitment to reducing single-use plastic pollution: essano™ Shampoo and Conditioner bottles are now made from rPET, 100% pre-used, recycled material that’s also 100% recyclable.
With your help, each year we will repurpose 56 tonnes of pre-used plastic collected from kerbside and commercial recycling. Using recycled materials means less new plastic will need to be made. And because rPET is fully recyclable, there’s less plastic heading for landfill too.
To show our commitment, we’ve signed the New Zealand Plastic Packaging Declaration alongside other forward-thinking companies who have agreed to shift completely to reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging by 2025 or earlier.
We realised that relaunching our shampoos and conditioners was a great opportunity to look at other ways to conserve resources and protect the environment. So we also redesigned our bottles to contain 20% less plastic than the average supermarket shampoo and conditioner bottle. Doing this one thing means there’ll be 16 tonnes less plastic in the environment each year. This has the added bonus of making each bottle softer and easier to squeeze – great for saving a little extra time in the shower!
What hasn’t changed, is what’s inside the bottles. Yup, still made from at least 90% natural ingredients. Our plant-based shampoo and conditioner formulas will stay the way you like them – using salon-quality ingredients and loaded with active natural ingredients like Argan Oil, Keratin Complex, Acai Berry and Coconut Milk that make your hair feel, look and smell amazing.
We believe that what we leave out is incredibly important too. Our promise is no Parabens, Sulphates, Nitrosamines, DEA, MEA, Ethoxylates, PEGS, PPGS, Phthalates, GMOS, Mineral Oils or Animal Testing.
You may notice we use the hashtag #doingourbit on the new packs. Our shampoo and conditioner bottles are just a start, and part of a much bigger journey to minimise our waste and make it easier for our customers to do their bit too. Watch this space for sustainable updates. In the meantime, you’ll start seeing our new bottles on shelves in New Zealand and Australia from the 23rd of September.
